Standard Mattress Sizes
Simmons®, like all other bedding manufacturers, subscribes to the International Sleep Products Association standard for bedding products. Dimension sizes are allowed ± ½” tolerance. If a “bunkie” foundation is used, it shall have the same width, length and tolerances as the finished twin size box spring. Finished sizes are measured from seam to seam on the binding tape at the centerlines of the width and length.

Measurements for average common sized beds.
These were from a quilting book and are slightly different, but I’ve found them to be more accurate for the beds in our house. Don’t forget, if your making a blanket to add the thickness of the mattress and drop to the bottom or rail or floor - whatever is preferred.
