Consew Report
Jun 1st, 2008 | By Gidget | Category: Coffee Klatch, Machines, RenovationsYeah, Cornerstone Sew and Vac finally called back yesterday and said my Consew 225 is ready for pickup! You may remember I took her to them on April 2nd. After adjusting the timing, it kept slipping just a bit out of alignment. The repairman called last week and said it was doing the same thing to him, so he wanted to take it to Atlanta to another repair friend of his. This made me feel a little better, I hope he’ll tell me what the secret was. The clerk called and said it’s ready now and will be $50. The price for a motor is 399.00 and a new tabletop (the one I got – the opening is too large) would be $100. So those will have to wait for now. But this payday, we are picking her up!!!! I CAN”T WAIT!!!!

They charged you $399 for a motor??!!!!!
I don’t know if you want to know this but even a high end Variable Speed Servo Motor would have only cost $115. http://www.southstarsupply.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2730
Sure, the shipping would have cost $30 but seriously, they nearly quadrupled the price.
As handy as you are, you could have installed it. The hardest part is being able to hold it in place while tightening the bolts. Well after the fact I changed out one of mine, I realized the better way to do it would have been to turn the table upside down. I think I paid $68 for mine about 8 years ago.
We have a machines and equipment thread on the F-I forum.
I ended up not needing to buy a motor, but yes, their prices were high. I was looking at Southstar or Atlanta Thread for one when JC offered me one for free, + pay for shipping. But alas, after trying the old motor it ended up running really well, so for now I don’t need one.
I saw the machines and equipment thread on the F-I forum – or should I say – I drool over them! As money comes, I hope to shop there!
There was also a site that showed using straps tied around the motor – then top – to help hold the motor into place when mounting. I like your idea better tho, of just turning the top upside down. It sounds better than holding up a 40+lb. motor.
Thank you for your comments! I appreciate them very much.
