Sales Tax and other fun schtuff

I received a letter from the Georgia State Tax Authority telling me that I would have to pay a fine if I did not send in the sales tax reports for months when I hadn’t had taxable sales. So far, that’s the last two years. Fortunately, I called and spoke with a really sweet lady that explained what I needed to do to get that cleared up and it didn’t cost any fine.
Next time, I won’t be so lucky.

The Mercantile’s sales have been out of state – but now – lesson learned. Won’t do it again! The paperwork generated to own a business is crazy. I’d like to hire full-time manufacturing help, but the biggest deterent is knowing how to file the payroll tax papers. A visit to our small business center is on the calendar for next year. I’m hoping to pay for an industrial sewing machine this year, so I’ll have the gear and will need the help. It’s time to delve further into the paperwork requirements.

Growing this business slowly is probably the best decision because it has given me time to learn what is involved in financial reporting. Having tried to use Quicken to track manufacturing and sales, maybe I need to look into seperate financial reporting software and keep the manufacturing / inventory seperately by hand for now. It’s really difficult to keep track of parts and whole manufacturing items. When I try to apply that across the board to Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables and General Ledger’s and Journals, it becomes really crazy. Sure do wish Pick was available for a window’s pc as a seperate language. I could write something that would work the way my brain does.
