Nursing and Algebra
Jul 18th, 2007 | By Gidget | Category: Associated Industry ProsSomething most people don’t know about me is that I’ve been taking classes over several years to get a nursing degree. After realizing I was running out of time to finish my degree that I started in 1986, I enrolled in online courses through West Ga. College. The biggest hurdle – I’ve still got to jump – is Algebra. I’ve got all of my base credits except Algebra. The last final I took, my third try, I failed miserably. One of these days I’m going to figure it out!
Today, I received an offer to review Guide To Healthcare Schools This site was different from other paid blogging offers, in that, they want constructive criticism about their site. An open review. Well, okay….
The first problem that I see is that many schools are not represented.
In Georgia, the most prestigious education /degree for nursing is obtained from Emory. Then there’s University of West Georgia and Carroll Tech. Those three aren’t on the list. What appears on the list, are lesser known schools like Univ. of Phoenix, High Tech Institute, Westwood, Devry, etc. Even as they are, I’m sure, paying for the listings, I wonder if the listings would be taken more seriously if it also showed the state/public colleges as well. Even as it’s easy to find out about state/public colleges, it would add more credibility to the site. Less of an info-mmercial feel.
The second problem I saw were the About Us page is written as an industry contact form and not an informative page to prospective students, thereby showing ‘their customer’ is the industry, not the prospective student’s whom these colleges are trying to enroll.
The third thing is – use spell check please.
This is from the About Us page: “The Guide To Network of education-related sites covers multiple fields of study and a comprehensive listing of online/traditional educational institutions. We strive to be the finaest educational resource for students”. Notice finaest? (Not that I always remember ot use spell chekcer iether).
Other than those things, the site did give me a listing of educational institutions in Georgia that I didn’t know had nursing related curriculum. It was a clean, easy to use site. The search functions were easy to follow.
