Land with a creek
Jul 13th, 2007 | By Gidget | Category: Coffee KlatchWhile looking for land with a creek on it. One of the things that occured to me is I would like to have our own water source. This means no water company to deal with and I really like that option. Get rid of the water company and the electric company at the same time and I’d be a happy log liver.
‘On the property’ water sources do bring up sanitation issues as well as a need for electricity for a pump. I remember a friend of mine asking if she could stay with me when the electric would go out. She was a single mom with 2 kids and lived in a trailer on a remote farm. She was scared to death of tornadoes and would show up on the doorstep every time the sky turned green. Her fear was the reason I refuse to ever live in a trailer on the eastern side of the U.S. (aside from never driving with 2 kids during a tornado warning. Her fear was that strong.) Her other aggravation of living in such a remote area was the need to power the pump for water. Whenever the power would go out, so would running water. She always had to keep buckets of water to flush toilets and wash dishes. Alot of times, she gave up and took the kids to a local motel.
Mainly, the decision I need to make are: Electricity with Running Water or Oil lamps and bucket hauling. Since I’ll probably be much older – it is going to need to be Electricity with Running Water and Oil lamps whenever possible. At least until wind or solar power gets more obtainable and I live on the Souther Side of a Windy Hill – then my water source could be falling from above, and all I need is a trolley to wheel it into my kitchen. Of course, then I would need some Portable Water Filters.
Wouldn’t that be kewl? Almost heaven, West Virginia…….
