Boats

Of course, with all of the talk about baseball – there is always boating. That is another really fun summertime activity and my middle child loves boats! Last month he asked for a boat quilt and even bought the backing fabric for it with his own money.

I love boats too! Especially sailboats! I crewed for a couple of seasons at Lake Lanier SC, in an MC and a J24. It’s alot of fun when there is wind! When there’s not, the best part is praying for a tow to the dock and getting one! A friend of mine has offered to take the kids out on his sailboat but I need to make sure they can swim really good first. Thanks to their Grandma, they have a summer pass to a pool so we can teach them. With America Swims charging $120 per child to teach them, we decided to try it ourselves first. After three visits, they hold their breath underwater and do the dead man’s float, albeit, still holding onto my thumb with one hand. Still, they are doing really good, nervous and courageous all at the same time. Their incentive to swim soon is that they could go on a boat before summer’s over. So far, it’s helping!
