Nov 12th, 2005 | By Gidget | Category: InspirationAfter seeing a vintage trumpeter’s swan powder puff for sale on ebay, I decided to try to make one from the Marabou Down that my children love to play with at the fabric store. Lots of trial and error later, I think it came out lovely. I was able to get a great price on the feathers. Originally they were going to cost alot more, but being post halloween and all, they were being offered at a huge savings. I bought as many as I could, so hopefully there will be enough to last awhile. It takes 2 yards of the boas in three colors to make each puff. I think the originals were dyed in a gradated spread from the center deepest pink. I am not brave enough to try dying the feathers yet. I used silk charmeuse in lt. pink and a ribbon that I just fell in love with. Ribbon Connections was supposed to send me a sample of their silk ribbons three weeks ago. Still waiting. If only I could run my business with such hutzpah!
